Dance Program  KlezKamp dance

Dancing at KlezKamp is the connective tissue of the community; it knits together young and old and gives both dancers and musicians the chance to experience viscerally an unbroken connection with previous generations.

Basic Yiddish Dance /PM2 Andreas Schmitges

Andreas Schmitges will lead the class in learning lesser-known dances such as the Sirba, the Kolomeyke, the Patsh Tants and the Runde. Reviews of the more popular dances like the Sher, Hora, Freylekhs and Bulgar will be given. These moves will be practiced on the dance floor in the evenings, with the instructor available for assistance. Suitable for beginners and those wishing to expand their repertoire.

Go Figure- Advanced Yiddish Dance/AM2 Steve Weintraub

Explore Jewish dances with more complicated figures (movement patterns), including a few different versions of the sher, the couples bulgar, the Pas de Span and Czardas, as well as some more advanced shining figures.

Meetings with Our MastersMeetings With Our Masters: Felix Fibich/AM1 Judith Brin Ingber with Felix Fibich
Join dance historian Judith Brin Ingber as she and legendary dancer/choreographer Felix Fibich discuss his long fascinating career in creating and expanding the language of modern Yiddish dance.

Yiddish Songs and Simcha Dances from kinder to kales/PM1 Jill Gellerman with Paula Teitelbaum, Binyomin Ginzberg and guests

How can Yiddish tants lid text be a source of instruction and inspiration for our steps? Join us on the dance floor and find out, as we sing A Yingele A Maydele, di Mezinke and more popular melodies to enliven a rich movement repertoire. Not only for kinder and kales.

Make Them Dance!/AM1 Jim Guttmann, Sherry Mayrent and Steve Weintraub

Klezmer, originally dance music, has become divorced from dancing by many of today’s klezmorim. Participants will take turns playing music for each other to dance to, developing a deeper understanding of what makes music danceable. Open to intermediate and advanced students.
