KlezKamp 25:
A Quarter Century of KlezKamp
December 23-29, 2009/5770
Hudson Valley Resort and Spa, Kerhonkson, NY
Tayere KlezKamp fraynt un frayndines,
It is with great pride and excitement that we invite you to join us for the 25th Anniversary edition of KlezKamp, the Yiddish Folk Arts program. Since its founding in 1984, KlezKamp has become the single most important Yiddish cultural event in the world. In the forefront of creating a unique community, KlezKamp has presented concerts and workshops featuring notable performers and teachers of Yiddish music, at the same time cultivating knowledgeable audiences.
In honor of this historic anniversary, this year’s KlezKamp will offer a special 6-night/5-day program which will run through the weekend, offering both egalitarian and traditional shabbos services. We are honored to have renowned khazn Barry Black, who will not only offer a survey class on the history of khazones, but will also lead the Orthodox congregation, accompanied by the KlezKamp Geklibene Shtimes (“Chosen Voices”), under the direction of Josh Dolgin.
We are offering two special discounts l’kovid our 25th Anniversary, and check out our Anniversary-themed programs (with a special designation), including:
- Di Hoo-Ha! A lavish penultimate night pageant by Jenny Romaine and her Teen Theater workshop, followed by a fency-shmency “dress up” evening program under the direction of Partymeister Steve Weintraub.
- A KlezKamp community memory quilt devised by Fabric Rebetzin Vera Sokolow and featuring mementos which you share with us, like photos (which will be scanned and returned), charms, and other items to include in this meaningful quilt.
We will also be celebrating TWO CD release parties: Elaine Hoffman-Watts: Klezmer Drummer. A Living Tradition and the 3 CD box set Cantors, Klezmorim and Crooners 1905-1953: Classic Yiddish 78s From the Mayrent Collection.
Our home is again the Hudson Valley Resort and Spa, a modern hotel mit alle mayles (with all the trimmings) in the Catskill tradition whose world class kitchen is, as always, under the shtreng Glatt kosher hashgokhe of Ha’rov Gershon Kreuser. We are honored to have traditional Hasidic baker, Chaim Reissman, of KY Bakery in Monroe, New York provide us with old time Yiddish bakeray.
Please mark this important milestone by making a donation to our scholarship program or taking out an ad in our special anniversary Zhurnal to honor a loved one, a friend, or a beloved teacher who made Yiddish culture a vital part of your life.
It has been an honor and a privilege to direct this wonderful program—one that has brought Yiddish culture to a new generation. Please join us and help us inaugurate the start of our next quarter century.
Mit varemste grisn,
